Interesting use of the row boat in the lower right corner. Traditionally artists were taught to avoid objects that pointed out of the corner as it would move the eye out of the composition. 

Mr. Flood appears to play a cord of tension between the row boat pointing out of the painting and the dark open boat house door in the upper left. 

The branches above the row boat play a supporting role in  pointing back towards the boat house, thus assisting in preventing the eye from leaving the field. A very complex play of visual tensions executed quite nicely.

From a painter's point of view it is always interesting to find works of art that delve into  the natural beauty inherent in the pigment it'self. In this case it is the beauty in  iron oxide that is being explored.

This is very interesting in that the red house in this painting looks  like the red house in the above painting titled "Summer Afternoon, Ironsides". It very well could be the same street from the other end.
